Once upon a time, back in the day, there were all of these rules. These rules stated that when putting together a room (or an outfit for that matter) you were only to use like metals in said room. No more dear readers… NO MORE! Mixing metals either in actual tones or finishes only creates a deeper element of style in a space.
If you are new to metal mixing, then welcome! This is truly one of the easiest decorating tricks to add into a space and instantly make it feel layered and collected. Adding in a gilded mirror, bringing out the silver pieces you have hidden away & adding some new hardware can bring your room to a whole new level.

A great tip to remember when mixing metals in a room is to have multiples. If you have all polished chrome & only one piece of antiqued brass, it may feel off. But if you add in a few more gold toned items it will instantly feel cohesive.

One of my most asked questions from clients is in regards to mixing metals, especially if there is a piece of furniture with nailhead trim. Just remember, metals always compliment other metals… so no. They do not have to match anymore!
